Who will sign with BYU on Wednesday?
- Updated: January 29, 2015
Signing Day Scenarios
BYU gets: Jimenez, Nwigwe, Brent, Hoyt, Lake, one of Tafua/Hunt
BYU doesn’t get: Reid, Vanderbilt, one of Tafua/Hunt
BYU fans should be nothing short of ecstatic if everything plays out as I’ve predicted, with 7 of the 9 at-large prospects signing with BYU and only Vanderbilt and Reid taking their talents elsewhere. I should note that even this scenario, which I’ve labeled the most likely based on my arbitrary percentages, has only a 3% chance of coming to fruition (based on my percentages). But, BYU has about a 25% chance of signing the core group of Nwigwe, Brent, Hoyt, Jimenez, and Lake. If the chips fall as shown, the 2015 class would be a great one for BYU.
Even if the Cougars only end up with five of these guys, the class should still be considered a successful one. Simply locking down Dayan Lake and coming away with the other in-state prospects or Tafua would solidify the 2015 class. The 2015 class as it stands is a good one, but any further additions will help take it from good to great. If a lot of the preferred walk-on guys are announced with the signees next Wednesday, Cougar fans will be disappointed that the top prospects fell off the board and BYU was forced to offer scholarships to its “backup plan” players to fill out the class.
The BYU staff did a good job of finishing out the recruiting class in 2014 (picking up final week commitments from Blackmon, Leiataua, Leslie, Warner, and Nacua and missing out only on Damien Mama and Courtland Sutton). With a big weekend planned, there’s no reason they can’t do the same this year.
Do you disagree on my percentages or have any additional info on players planning to visit BYU this weekend? Join the discussion on Cougarboard.

Right now it doesn’t appear we have a choice!
